چکیده

Amphiphilic peptides approximately fteen amino acids in length and their corresponding antisense peptides exist within protein molecules. These regions (termed antisense homology boxes) are separated by approximately fty amino acids. Since many sense-antisense peptide pairs have been reported to recognize and bind to each other, antisense homology boxes may be involved in folding, chaperoning and oligomer formation of proteins. The nding that cc 70 per cent of the antisense homology box derived peptides from C5a receptor and human Endothelin A receptor are speci c inhibitors or agonist to their corresponding proteins indicate that these regions can have signi cant role in proteins.

Sense-Antisense Homology Boxes in Proteins: Structural Motifs Enconded in the DNA?

Experimental evidence implying that complementary DNA strands encode amino acids which exhibit complementary hydrophobic characteristics has led us to the inspection of sense-antisense homology in several hundreds of proteins recorded in the PDB. We present here partial results of this analysis which relate localized peculiar structural characteristics of proteins to the senseantisense homology...

Effects of ackA, pta and poxB inhibition by antisense RNA on acetate excretion and recombinant beta interferon expression in Escherichia coli

Introduction: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is one of the most widely used hosts for the production of recombinant proteins. The main problem in getting high product yields and productivity is the accumulation of acetic acid (acetate) as an unwanted metabolic by-product. In this study, an antisense-based strategy as a metabolic engineering approach was employed to hamper the acetate excretion probl...

Peptide therapy in sepsis and inflammation: a novel strategy to suppress inflammation

REVIEW Antisense Homology Box (AHB) In 1984, Blalock proposed the possible role of antisense peptides for molecular interaction among proteins [1,2]. We speculated that interactions between sense-and antisense-peptides should play a role in formation of the tertiary structure of proteins. We developed a novel computer program named ANTIS to find antisense peptide sequences between proteins to b...

In Silico and in Vitroinvestigations on cry4aand cry11atoxins of Bacillus thuringiensis var Israelensis

In the present study we attempted to correlate the structure and function of the cry11a (72 kDa) and cry4a (135 kDa) proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis. Homology modeling and secondary structure predictions were done to locate most probable regions for finding helices or strands in these proteins. The JPRED (JPRED consensus secondary structure prediction server) secondary struct...

Inhibition of AckA and Pta Genes Using Two Specific Antisense RNAs Reduced Acetate Accumulation in Batch Fermentation of E. coli BL21 (DE3)

Expression of foreign proteins in E. coli is normally inhibited by exogenous production of acetate. To overcomethis problem, various strategies have been proposed and tested to reduce the extent of acetate accumulation.Although these strategies can improve the outcome, the implementation of their proposed techniquesis not practical. Because to achieve optimal results, it requi...
